USD 422 conducts business, hears about FFA trip to National Convention

The Kiowa County USD 422 Board of Education met January 13 at 7 p.m. to update staff assignments and hear the latest district news.

Board president Ki Gamble called the meeting to order with present members David Allison, Jamie Brown, J. Wynn Fleener, and Mike Greenleaf. Tyler Heinson, ,and Cory Zenger joined the meeting later.

Staff present included Brandie Waldschmidt, Travis Powell, Luke Alpers, and Cassie Kirby. There were several audience attenders, including Patrick Janssen, Julie Lyon, Tristan Sneed, Carter Kishpaugh, Emerson Sherer, Justin Slade, and Braydon Oberbeck.

After a motion and approval to accept the agenda with three additions: Accept resignations, Consider Christmas bonuses, and hear FFA presentation, a motion was made by Jamie Brown and seconded by Mike Greenleaf to approve the minutes of the regular meeting held November 25,

FFA officers and their advisor then took the stage to report on their recent trip to the National FFA Conference in Indianapolis, which was enjoyed by all.

Julie Lyon, of Kiowa County Economic Development, addressed the board regarding local daycare needs.

In other business, board members:

* approved payment of December bills in the amount of $119,156.74.

* approved local PDC procedures as presented by the superintendent.

* accepted the resignations of Hannah and Rick Headrick, effective May 31, 2025.

* approved staff Christmas bonuses as proposed by the superintendent.

* heard Superintendent Brandie Waldschmidt give an expenditure report, discussed window repairs, and the wrestling practice schedule.
