For three weeks now, the Tri-County Tribune has been naming one male and one female as our Athletes of the Week. This recognition will continue throughout the 2024 fall sports season, with selections made from high school student-athletes in the five schools in our coverage area: Pratt High School, Skyline High School, Macksville High School, Stafford High School, St. John High School, and Kiowa County High School.

At the end of the season, readers will vote on their favorite High School Fall Athlete of the season. Watch our website at www.tricountytribune.news for more information on this end-of-season award and to keep track of our weekly winners.

For the week of October 10, the Tribune AOTW winners are Macksville’s senior volleyball ace Morgan Sebes, and from Kiowa County High School, senior football line anchor Silas Hawkins. Congratulations to the fine people and their respective schools this week!

Morgan Sebes is a senior volleyball player at Macksville High School. She led her team in serve aces in the Pawnee Heights Tournament last week, helping the Mustangs defend their 4th consecutive tournament title at Pawnee Heights, and earns the nod for Tri-County Tribune’s Week 3 Female Athlete of the Week.  At the time of this award the Mustangs were 13-14 (varsity) and 2-4 in the Central Prairie League.

Kiowa County High School senior football player Silas Hawkins is our male Week 3 Tribune Athlete of the Week. Hawkins anchors a Maverick line as DE and C, putting in the time both ways and propelling his team to a pivotal win over Udall on Friday, October 4 in Greensburg. Hawkins and the Mavericks traveled to Oxford on Friday, October 11, looking for another win.
