It’s the start of the Christmas season and nowhere is that more visible than at the Vernon Filley Art Museum in Pratt. More than 20 displays of Christmas trees, wreaths, quilts, table tops and more are part of the annual Filley Festival of Trees, Wreaths, and Decorations, which may be viewed free by the public due to sponsorship of the event by Pratt Regional Medical Center. But there is more than that which meets the eye to enjoy at the Filley these days. Starting this Friday, holiday music preformed by local musicians is offered free during lunch hour from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on December 6 as well as on December 20. On Friday, December 13, the holiday music special will take place from 5-6 p.m. for those who might night be able to get away for a lunch-hour visit.
“We invite the public to come in and relax, refresh, and revive their spirit with holiday music during these Friday events,” said Martha Cortez, museum assistant.
On December 6, the musical lunch hour program will feature Pam Mayo and Elaine Worden on flute and piano, Brittany Novotny and Darrell Stroda on trumpets, Cindy Smith vocal, PCC Encore vocal chorus, Deborah Nasca vocal, Duane Hanks piano, and Nancy Kerr, Gracie Bronson, Duane Hanks in a combined vocal, piano and cello trio.
The December 13 evening session, call Twinkling Lights (5-6:30 p.m.) lists performers such as Alex Smith (vocal and guitar), the Happy Hearts Trio (Nancy Kerr, Pam Mayo, and Elaine Worden), the Cello Chicks, Ashtyn Novotny (vocal and guitar), Patrice Egging (piano), Pam Mayo and Emma Bronson (flute duet), and Brittany Novotny, Darrell Stroda, and Sophie Bronson (trumpet trio).
December 20 performers will be Pam and Kim Krehbiel (vocal), Felicity Joplin (violin), Levi Joplin (piano), Addison Joplin (guitar), Pam Mayo and Elaine Worden (flute with piano), Kyra Dauner (piano), Abby Penna and friends (guitar and vocals), Ben Jones (vocal and piano), Jane Biles and Dorothy Trinkle (piano duet).
The three December music events are sponsored by Morgan Diesel.
Families, couples, and individuals are invited to take part in a community craft project making Christmas crafts that will be given as gifts to local care facility residents. This event takes places on December 14 and is called the Second Saturday Family Free Day at the museum. Admission is free for everyone.
