Skyline FFA (Future Farmers of America) officers traveled to Wellington on Wednesday, November 13 to compete in the South Central District Leadership Event. This competition draws over thirty FFA chapters from district schools to match wits concerning the tenets of Leadership Development. These are the rules outlined in the official FFA Manual and include but are not limited to, the proper presentation of the FFA opening and closing ceremonies, proper identity and standard of official dress, and the development of public speaking skills. There were two rooms in the preliminary rounds with the top three teams from each room advancing to the final round.

This event is designed to emphasize the significance and purpose of holding regular, organized, and effective chapter meetings and the relevance of chapter officers’ duties. The goal of this event is to not only raise the level of chapter meetings but ultimately to drive interest and participation in future Parliamentary Procedure LDE.

The teams consisted of six active members, and Skyline had seven officers in attendance. These were: President Ethan Robinson, Vice-President Trystan Harrold, Secretary Kami Hemphill, Treasurer Peyton Walker, Reporter Cheyanne Snider, Sentinel Levi Smith, Parliamentarian Ely Robinson, and Advisor Cory Hampton. To prepare for the challenge, all of the FFA official ceremonies had to be memorized, rehearsed, and presented with the pride and reverence befitting the occasion.

Skyline placed sixth in the competition with Junior Cheyanne Snider receiving individual honors by being recognized as Master Reporter. This is presented to the officer who performed the best out of all the chapter representatives.
