Birthing Time!
Birthing time’s when babes are born ,
On the farm on a frosty morn!
Mostly they are cute and snugly,
Other times homely and well otherwise!
I had some calves born this past week,
Sweet and cute, mild and meek!
A little white face Hereford bull,
And a little angus, black as coal!
Oh so fun to see them lay,
Where mama cow told them to stay!
And then to watch them run and play,
Anxious for a springtime day!
They seem to be the first to break the ice,
Then it’s cats, pups, skunks and mice!
Then pretty soon it’s baby chicks,
Running to and fro and peck peck peck!
But right now winter’s setting in,
Snow and ice, not a warm man’s friend!
A time for warm drinks by the fire,
And to snuggle warm within your shire!
To read the springtime garden books,
Neath a blanket in a cozy nook!
And yearn for spring and a warmer day,
While you watch newborn calves at play!

Spring Must be Getting Near
I can often tell when spring is getting near
Cause Posie leaves her den
to clear the atmosphere.
The aromatic scent is drifting thru the air
As dancing and a prancing she wanders here and there.
Ahh, the puppies never seem to learn,
A date with miss Posie it is better that they spurn.
Smells in the country often fill the air and blend
New mown hay, feedlots, a wiff from farmers friend.
Some will invigorate, some will burn the eyes,
But a deep wiff from Posie could surely win a prize.
When this friend graces early spring,
Next time you see her, she might a family bring.
Now she’s not a bad one to have on the range,
But if you get to close you’re surely in for change.
So keep your distance, let her have her spunk.
Cause Posie, Miss Posie is a striped skunk.
