Four boys and one girl make up the first-year Kiowa County High School wrestling team. Under the leadership of experienced coaches Shawn Cannon and Colton Oshel, the group is experiencing growth and success while building something new for the Mavericks nation.
On January 24, the KCHS wrestling team brought home two medals from the Cimarron Tournament where James Greenleaf won first and Brooke Minyard took fourth place. Just the week prior, Greenleaf won the 120 lb. boys class at the Scott City Wrestling Classic on Saturday, January 18. Greenleaf also won first at Ulysses in the opening competition of the season in December 2024.
The Maverick team, comprised of junior Austin Allison, junior Brandon Wolfley, freshman Elijah Roberts, freshman Greenleaf, and Minyard, also has a few other members rotating in and out of practice sessions.
Final competitions for the season rely on qualification tournaments with Regionals taking place February 21-22 and the State 3-1A Wrestling Tournament February 28-March 1 in Hays.
Congratulations to the Mavericks for a successful first season and a bright future ahead for Maverick Wrestling.
