Pratt Farmers Market at Merchants Park celebrated their final market of the season with a fall festival atmosphere. Vendors dressed in costumes, local cheerleaders provided face painting, there was music and games for kids of all ages. City of Pratt police officer Danny Gimpel was there with K-9 officer Finn to meet and greet all comers.
For Pratt student Bryleigh Fox, the last farmers market of the season was a perfect entrepreneurial opportunity as she sold three types of cookies and treats in Halloween boo bags to make a little spending money. She made all the items she sold herself, and the results were quite good, according to customers at the vendor table she shared with her mom, Josie Fox, and grandmother, Gail Brown, who sold beef from Wheat State Farms, Pratt.
Byers/Trousdale farm vendor Savannah Smith was there with her trailer full of brightly colored pumpkins and squash, almost as colorful as her own gypsy-seller costume. Since it was the last local market of the season Smith offered a special deal of $30 per wagon load of pumpkins off the trailer. Kids dressed in costumes could pick a free small pumpkin out from the circle tank on the trailer. Smith said she would still be offering pumpkins for sale at her farm for those who wished to come out and pick their own and fill a trailer. It was a good year for growing pumpkins and there were still plenty out there to pick, she said.
Merchant Park Farmer’s Market director Amanda Plucker said that the outdoor farmers market will be closed until next spring. There will be indoor arts, crafts, and local vendor opportunities for many of those who sold at the outdoor market this summer, however.
