Kiowa County JAG-K gets approval for trip to national competition

The Board of Education of Unified School District No. 422, State of Kansas, Kiowa County, met for a regular meeting at the school district office, 710 S. Main Street in Greensburg. The meeting was called to order by President Ki Gamble at 8:03 p.m.

Board members present included Gamble, David Allison, Mike Greenleaf, and Tyler Heinson. Those absent at the start of the meeting were Jamie Brown, J. Wynn Fleener, Cory Zenger.

Staff in attendance were Brandie Waldschmidt, Travis Powell, Stephanie White-Neuhold, Marcus Mitchell, and Cassie Kirby.

Audience members there were Ally Taylor, Kaden Weseloh, Silas Hawkins, Hannah Greenleaf, Natalie Backora (JAG-K manager), Patrick Janssen.

JAG-K students were in attendance along with their teacher to request permission to attend a national event in Indianapolis. Kiowa County qualified nine students at the JAG-K Region 1 CDC (JAG Olympics) at Barton Community College for the State CDC. Five events of seven have advanced. Those qualifying at state will be eligible for the national event in Indianapolis.

A motion of approval for the JAG-K national trip was made by Tyler Heinson and seconded by David Allison. The board passed this request unanimously.

In other business, the board:

*Approved payment of additional March bills in the amount of $142,224.75.

* Approved a JAG-K agreement for 2025-26 at a cost of $14,629.

* Heard Principals Stephanie White-Neuhold and Travis Powell report on school activities and state assessment testing.

* Heard Superintendent Brandie Waldschmidt reported on facility projects and discussed next year’s welding program.

* Met with administration in executive session to discuss employee performance, pursuant to the nonelected personnel exception under the Kansas Open Meeting Act. No action was reported at the end of that executive session.
