Kiowa County BOE approves teacher snow days, plans next year’s welding courses

The Board of Education of Unified School District No. 422, State of Kansas, Kiowa County, met February 24, 2025, for a regular meeting at the school district office, 710 S. Main Street in Greensburg. The meeting was called to order by Ki Gamble at 8:02 p.m.

Members present included Ki Gamble, David Allison, Jamie Brown, Tyler Heinson, Cory Zenger; and J. Wynn Fleener (by phone). Mike Greenleaf was absent. Staff members present included Brandie Waldschmidt, Stephanie White-Neuhold, Cassie Kirby.

The agenda and minutes of the previous meeting held February 10, 2025 were approved, followed by a motion from Heinson and seconded by Zenger to approve payment of additional February bills in the amount of $74,684.68. This was passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Brown and seconded by Allison to approve snow-day pay for classified staff, as recommended by the superintendent. This also passed unanimously.

Principal Stephanie White-Neuhold reported on preschool admission requirements and recent Influenza A incidents.

Superintendent Brandie Waldschmidt reported on dyslexia support planned for the summer; Parents As Teachers; plans for next year’s welding course; and options for the modular that previously served as the preschool classroom

A motion was made by David Allison and seconded by J. Wynn Fleener that the board and administration go into executive session at 9:20 p.m. to discuss teacher negotiation items, pursuant to the employer-employee negotiations exception under the Kansas Open Meeting Act, and that the open meeting will resume at 9:30 p.m.

No public action was recorded after the executive session other than an adjornment by Gamble.
