Friends and supporters of Pratt Area Humane Society gathered for a chili fest and Halloween extravaganza on Saturday, October 26 at the PAHS facility, raising more than $1,000 for the organization.

“We had a real good turnout,” said organizer and PAHS Director Jackie Folkers. “Lots of people, kids, and dogs in costumes, trunk or treat options. People took part, buying from our bake sale, t-shirts, tasting chili, or making donations. It was just a lot of fun.”

Folkers said she hopes to make the PAHS Halloweeen festival an annual event for Pratt and will be putting money raised towards the spay and neuter program, which is being revamped to better serve customers.

In addition to providing a place for people and animals to mingle and enjoy each others company, the PAHS Halloween event included a parade of costumes (people, pets, and PAHS dogs) that went to nearby Southwind Hospice.

“The residents there just enjoyed the kids and animals so much,” Folkers said. “It was a good day.”

Winner of the chili cook-off that was part of the PAHS fun was Cody Folkers with his steak chili. Keith Lippoldt was second. There were about seven varieties of tasty chili for visitors to sample during the Halloween event.

Folkers said that raffle drawings for cat-lover and dog-lover baskets will be carried over to the Hot and Cold Holiday Market, which is set for Saturday, November 23 in Pratt. Many silent auction items were bid on and sold, while there were also many prizes given out to trivia question participants inside the PAHS facility on Saturday.
