The Pratt High Sschool boys’ basketball team has found great success through the beginning and middle of the season. While they have had their share of blowout victories, there have also been a couple of games that have required them to face adversity and use grit to persevere through them. After a couple of tough losses to Hesston and Hillsboro, the program managed to bounce back with a much-needed sweep over Halstead on Tuesday, February 8th.
Macksville (10-6, 1-1 CPL) led 16-6 after the first quarter eight minutes before outscoring the Kinsley Coyotes 13-7 in the second quarter for a 29-17 advantage at halftime From there, the Lady Stangs were able to widen their lead on their way to the 37-point win. Kambry Adams led the Lady Stangs with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Mayce Russell added 13 points, 3 assists and 7 steals. Senior Abi Ibarra ended with 6 points, 7 steals, and 3 assists. Junior Joselin Garcia added 9 points, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 5 steals. The Lady Stangs’ next match-up is against the Lady Aces of Bucklin.
Pratt High School girls jumped out to a 12-2 lead last week at Halstead and then started to struggle against the press. Resulting turnovers were a plague but the Lady Greenbacks pulled out a 48-43 win despite that trouble.
The Barclay Bears men’s basketball team beat Ozark Christian College last week 103-100. This game was a shootout from start to finish. Ozark Christian shot 56.5 percent from the field in the win and was 17-of-31 from the perimeter. They were a crisp 13-of-21 from the free-throw line.
The Pratt Community College women’s basketball team beat Independence 68-65 this past weekend in a game that was a very physical match up. Both teams took shots back and forth to keep up with each other.
The Greenback Girls’ Wrestling Team had another historic outing on Saturday, winning Regionals by 69 points over the #2 ranked D2 team in the state, Wellington and the #9 ranked team, Mulvane, in a 25 team field.
The St. John-Hudson girls varsity basketball team won Friday’s game against Victoria by a score of 55-19.
