St. John girls defeat Spearville in sub-state championship game

The Lady Tigers of St. John-Hudson are State bound after a 53-43 victory over Spearville at Kiowa County in the 1A-I sub-state finals. The Lady Tigers will play in Dodge City on Wednesday after a pep rally sendoff in their home town at the school. Classes dismiss at noon so students may attend and support their Lady Tigers from USD 350. St. John-Hudson takes on Centralia at 2 p.m. Wednesday

PCC’s Powe wins national wrestling championship title

Pratt, Kan. - The No. 6 ranked Pratt Community College wrestling team was in action this past weekend March 7-8 at the NJCAA Men’s Wrestling Championships held in Council Bluff, Iowa. The Beavers finished ninth overall for another top 10 performance with three all-Americans. The story of the weekend for Pratt was that the Beavers No. 1-ranked wrestler Melton Powe won the national championship title at 165 pounds. The other two all-Americans from Pratt included 2nd ranked James Bankston at 285 pounds, and 7th ranked Johnny Cash Thomas at 157 pounds. Both finished in seventh place in the national tournament.
