St. John-Hudson High School track and field coaches Trish Wade and Danny Smith (assistant) took their teams out for two competitions last week, Pre-State at Cessna Stadium in Wichita and a league meet at Lyons High School. Results from both occasions were noteworthy.
After battling through tough doubleheaders against Hutchinson and Great Bend, the Pratt High School Baseball team has begun to roll through their competition in the Central Kansas League. The Greenbacks recently picked up sweeps against Hoisington, Haven, and Halstead to improve their record to 7-3.
PRATT – Nearly 400 student archers from across Kansas competed for top honors at the Kansas National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Tournaments, held March 28–29 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. Students participated in bullseye and 3D archery events, vying for individual and team awards—and the chance to qualify for NASP Nationals.
The Skyline Thunderbird baseball team is six games into a season that has been frustrating at times but has offered many opportunities for growth and improvement. Skyline Baseball is relatively new (started in 2019), so this is not the first time that the team has struggled to find its footing, nor will it be their last.
Skyline Thunderbird softball is well underway with the prospects for the rest of the season looking very good. The Thunderbirds basically returned the team that went to state last season and added four additional players, one of which starts in right field. Cooper Wesley was a transfer this year and has been a positive addition to an already stellar line-up for the Birds.
The Pratt High School track squad recently began the 2025 season with a solid performance at the annual Andale varsity meet. This year, a total of eight schools attended the meet, including tough ones in Bishop Carroll, Cheney, and Valley Center. However, Pratt still had several athletes produce successful results in multiple events.

Kansas State University (KSU) junior and Pratt High School graduate Matthew Hook is proudly representing his Pratt baseball roots as a student equipment manager for the KSU baseball team, a team currently ranked 22nd in the nation. Hook played third base for Pratt High’s varsity baseball team and has great memories of his time there while playing for Head Coach Ron Hill.
With the last quarter of the school year starting, the 2025 softball season has just gotten underway for the Pratt High School softball team. The Lady Greenbacks, who have a team with players of mixed experience levels, have played two doubleheaders thus far against tough opponents in Halstead and Great Bend.
With a team composed of lifters of varying ages, the Pratt High School powerlifting squad has had a very successful year on both ends. The team, which has a squad of dedicated competitors, competed at the 3A State Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, March 29. There, all students lifted very well in three separate categories, and a couple of Greenbacks were crowned state champions.
