AUSTIN, Texas — Kansas football ended its Big 12 Conference losing streak Saturday with a 57-56 victory on the road at Texas. Here are three takeaways from the Jayhawks (2-8, 1-6 in Big 12) victory against the Longhorns (4-6, 2-5 in Big 12): Kansas strikes fast, holds on in overtime The Jayhawks were up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, and while the Longhorns fought back to tie it 14-14 the Jayhawks were back up 35-14 by the time the first half ended.

K-State wins 34-17 over West Virginia with defensive showcase

The 7-3 Kansas State Wildcats are coming off a 34-17 win over West Virginia last Saturday in a game that was in a little doubt during the 4th quarter. This Saturday K-State will host the Baylor Bears during Senior Day as this is the last home game of 2021. The game will kickoff at a little bit of a strange time as it is scheduled for a 4:30 start and will be televised by FS1.

Hunting season enjoyed by many in this columnist’s Kansas hometown

It has always pleased me to be part of a church where so many guys and gals are hunters, fishermen, outdoorsmen and shooting enthusiasts. The dedicated upland bird hunters were easy to spot at my churches annual trap shooting get-together on Sunday, as most clay birds had little chance of survival when those shooters were on the firing line. Our small but diverse group consisted of an ex-soldier with extensive marksmanship training, an electrician, an engineer, a golf-course manager, a large farmer, the youth pastor, a couple high school kids and a few retired duffers like myself. Ages ranged from upper 70’s to 14 years young.

K-State football gets an easy win over TCU Saturday in Manhattan

The Kansas State Wildcats ran their record to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play with an easy win over the TCU Horned Frogs 31-12 last Saturday. This Saturday K-State will travel a little over an hour to the east where they will face the Kansas Jayhawks. KU is currently 0-5 in the Big 12 and 1-7 overall. The game will kick off at 11 a.m. from Memorial Stadium and will be televised on FS1.
