Pratt High School boys and girls basketball teams continued impressive play at the Hoisington Cardinal Winter Jam Tournament last week. The Greenbacks boys improved to 11-2 following a 53-45 championship game victory over Ellinwood Saturday.
Kiowa County’s fast-improving high school boy’s basketball team tacked together a two-game home winning streak last week, defeating Southwestern Heights 66-63 on Friday night and Kinsley 48-33 Saturday.
Back at full strength, the Lady Beavers traveled to Cowley last Saturday to face the Tigers at 5:30 pm. They lost 68-43 in a contest that showcased balanced scoring from Pratt Community College players with Chariah Daniels and Christy Wiebe bucketing 9 each while Cassie Onwugbufor contributed 6 points and Karolina Juresiute, Lianna Washington (from rural Pratt) and Ruth Sodipe popped in 5 each. Grace Hendrickson, a Pretty Prairie native added 4 points, according to posted box scores.
The Pratt Community College men’s basketball team is looking for a win in 2022. Despite finishing 2021 with three good wins, the calendar turn has not been favorable for them yet in 2022. Last week they took a close 71-77 contest with Cowley to the wire, but they hoped for a better outcome Monday when they played host to Seward County.

Pratt girls finished fourth and the boys 10th at the 4th annual Dodge City Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. The Greenbacks girls finished with 125.5 points, 18 points behind team champion Emporia.
