Finalists, special award winners, and former Miss Kansas title holders all part of 2025 experience in Pratt

Miss Meadowlark Emily Rugg was crowned 2025 Miss Kansas after a week of special events, competitions, parade and pageantry the first week of June in Pratt. Thursday and Friday preliminary contests as well as the final Saturday competition were held in the Dennis Lesh Arena at Pratt Community College in front of supportive crowds, all emceed by KSNs television host Michael Schwanke.

Manor residents create patriotic quilt for July 4 raffle

Members of a sewing club at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham have joined forces to create a full-size patriot quilt that features an eagle center with red, white, and blue sides that will be raffled off for July 4 as a fundraiser for the skilled nursing center. Those tickets are on sale now by contacting Hilltop Manor Administrator James Spurgin, by phone (620) 298-2781 or email hilltop@americareusa.net.

Explore Kansas Outdoors: Reading and interpreting Kansas Fishing Reports and Forecasts

Unlike hunting seasons, fishing never really ends here in Kansas. Yes, different times of the year bring with them differing success rates for different species, but there is good fishing to be had year around here in the sunflower state if you know where to go and how to do it. The Kansas Dept of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) puts together and maintains fishing reports and fishing forecasts to help you with that. I spoke with the KDWPT Fisheries Biologist in my area and got a crash course in reading and interpreting their fishing reports and forecasts and learned more about how they put them together.
