Veteran’s View: Innocence lost on 9/11

I was working for a software company based in New Jersey in 2001. I would work in the office up there for two weeks and then fly home and work from home for two weeks. It was a great job, my coworkers were wonderful people and the management was top-notch. On weekends I could hop on the train and be in New York within less than an hour, or I could go stay with my brother in Philadelphia.

City of Pratt hears RNR concerns

On September 2, 2025, the Pratt City Commission held its required public hearing to be able to pass resolution 090225 levying property taxes above the revenue neutral rate. The hearing is required by law whenever the property tax rate is to be raised, even though this particular increase really just allowed the mill levy to rise with inflation. After the hearing was concluded, the resolution was passed.

Empowered Pratt Citizens organized protest, schedule school board candidate chats

On Wednesday, August 27, a group of 20-24 men and women known as Empowered Pratt Citizens (EPC) came together to demonstrate at the Avenue of the Flags with the theme “Workers over Billionaires.” Many were dressed as “workers.” There were those dressed in bright orange construction worker vests, one in a clergy robe, lots of denim, sweatshirts, hard hats, cowboy hats, and baseball caps were present, as well. Signs included comments like “Raise the Taxes on Billionaires,” “Support Immigrants with Kindness & Caring,” “Love Your Neighbor,” and “America Needs Immigrants.” The recognition of their messages by truck drivers passing through town and local drivers going about their business brought handwaves and shouts of joy from the protestors.

Local teachers benefit from Pratt Lions Club support bags

The Pratt Lions Club is known for supporting vision care, providing help for those in need, ramp assistance, and driving a barrel train at community events. For the past few years, the club has also quietly stepped into the realm of supporting area teachers with small monthly gifts to let them know they are appreciated. This year, the club has moved from picking up several teachers to support to providing inspiration to all of the teachers employed by USDs 382 and 438 in Pratt school districts.

Bond issue will address critical facility needs for USD 350 St. John-Hudson schools

St. John-Hudson USD 350 welcomed back students for a new school year on Thursday, August 21, with an exciting blow-up Tiger at the entrance. A new year, new superintendent, and new promise on the horizon for this district was celebrated with a back-to-school ice cream party that afternoon and a Tiger Pride Night on August 25. Now school supporters will put their heads together to find a way to pas a rising school bond issue on the upcoming November 4, 2025 election.

St. John — Hall Museum is excited to announce a unique quilting bee event that celebrates a remarkable piece of American history: the creative use of printed flour sacks during times of hardship. These durable cotton sacks, once used to store grains, became vital materials for making clothing and quilts during the Great Depression and World War II, symbolizing resilience and ingenuity.

Farm families awarded by Pratt County Farm Bureau

The Pratt County Farm Bureau honored several members and area farmers for their achievements in agriculture at their annual meeting last Thursday at the Pratt County 4-H Building. Nick and Josie Fox, and their daughters Bryleigh and Layne, were named the Pratt County Farm Family of the Year, and Darren and Jill Hodgkinson were recognized as the Pratt County Natural Resources Award recipient for this year.
