At the city’s second regular commission meeting of the year on January 21, the city recognized its employees for their years of service. Mayor Kyle Farmer made the following presentations and thanked each employee for their work.
There’s no doubt that winter affects the life and work of mobile vet Bruce Figger, DVM for South Wind Animal Health, but he enjoys the variety of his work and that keeps him going rain or shine, snow or sun. Figger sees plenty of variety in the livestock he cares for as part of his large animal services in an area that includes Pratt, Stafford, Barton, Reno, even Rice counties.
TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) (collectively, “Kansas”) is issuing fish consumption advisories for 2025. The following advisories identify types of fish, or other aquatic species, that should be eaten in limited quantities or, in some cases, avoided altogether because of contamination. General advice and internet resources are provided to aid the public in making informed decisions regarding the benefits and risks associated with eating locally caught fish from Kansas waters.

Winners from the Vernon Filley Art Museum’s Annual Holiday Festival of Trees, Wreaths and Decorations have been released. The “Best of Show“ winner was determined by collecting the most votes from patrons throughout the holiday season.
The City of Pratt and most of the Tri-County Tribune coverage area continues to recover from arctic cold temperatures and additional snowfall that fell in the area on Monday, January 20. Many evening activities were canceled due to wind chill factors plummeting to -13 and -17 below zero.
The City of Pratt had its first regular commission meeting of 2025 on January 13. This first meeting is always centered on reorganization for the coming year. This year, Mayor Zach Deeds stepped down after six years on the commission and three as mayor. Deeds was replaced as mayor by Kyle Farmer, who was already serving on the commission and, by profession, teaches government at Pratt High School. The empty seat left by Deeds’ departure from the commission was filled by Monte Hostetler who was elected to the commission by the public after previously serving on the Planning and Zoning Committee for the City of Pratt.
On a night when bitter North winds blew in snow flurries and dropped temperatures to wind chill factors near zero, and on a night when the Kansas City Chiefs football team was in a playoff game, and on a night when there were multiple other options for entertainment, one might think no one would go out for pancakes. That would be wrong.
