Moving to Pratt as a teenager, KAKE-TV news anchor Deb Farris had no way of knowing that the town would shape her life in such a lasting way. Having moved to a farm just west of Pratt before her sophomore year of high school, she managed to adjust to what seemed like a much bigger town.

Two wrecks took place the first week in May on U.S. Highway 54 in Kiowa County. The first was a double-semi side swipe that ripped open the trailer of one semi truck and left a second truck nose-ended on the nearby railroad tracks on the north side of the highway near the Pratt County line. The second wreck on May 8 claimed the lives of a woman and two children when a Ford F-150 they were in crashed head-on with a semi-truck one mile east of Mullinville.

TOPEKA – Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) Secretary Christopher Kennedy has issued orders designating several Free Fishing and Free State Park Entrance days. The announcement was made at the April 24 Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission meeting.
It was a nice cool day with just a little rain on April 23, 2025 when six groups of 5th grade students took part on Kids Day on the Farm at the Blasi Farm northwest of Pratt. Participants included four groups of students from Pratt, one group from Skyline and one homeschool group.
Earth Day was first officially celebrated in 1970, 55 years ago. It’s a time to remember the beauty of our planet and our responsibility to care for it for future generations. The Macksville City Library hosted an Outdoor Kansas Kids (O.K. Kids) event at the Macksville Grade School, for all students Pre-K through 6th grade, thanks to a grant from the Kansas Wildscape Foundation.
Demonstrating their commitment to the Pratt community during National Drug Awareness Day, Elks Lodge #1451, in collaboration with the non-profit DEC (Drugs Endangered Children), sponsored a drive-thru “Red Shirt Sundae Celebration” on April 23 for local children. The ice cream treats were accompanied by Elks DAP bookmarks and stickers featuring the “Elks Say No to Drugs” logo.
