Summer reading program benefits from SCCF grant in Mackvsille

In November of 2024, the Macksville City Library announced thankfulness for receiving a $15,000 grant from the South Central Community Foundation. SCCF is a regional foundation that manages charitable funds for seven counties in South-Central Kansas. Our “Libraries Unite” project allowed the libraries in Macksville, St. John & Stafford to divide the grant equally, each utilizing $5,000 to improve programming, accessibility and outreach to patrons across Stafford county (and beyond). At Macksville, we have finally spent all of our grant funds in some very impactful ways!

City at Night provides intrigue and challenge for John Patton Photography in Pratt

John Patton is a familiar face in Pratt, usually carrying his camera in hand at community events, Chamber functions, and Pratt Community College activities. He is well known for his portrait photography and even charitable pet photo shots, but this past weekend he was recognized for a project he has been working on for some time.

Deal Yourself a Winning Fair this year in Pratt

Last week the Maker Zone at the Pratt Public Library was busy with young people who came in to create decorative playing cards that will be part of the 2025 Pratt County Fair. This year’s fair theme is Deal Yourself a Winning Fair, and participants in the card challenge were given a chance to let their creativity take over as they made cards for a special class at this year’s event.

Political picnic provides fellowship and candidate sharing

On Saturday, July 12 at 6 p.m. the Kingman County Democrats hosted a picnic for south central Kansas residents to meet, greet, and listen to candidates running for Kansas state elected offices. With three speakers at the picnic, as well as beef burgers, plenty of side dishes, and a turn-out of around 50 people, Pratt County residents joined with Kingman County citizens at the Cunningham park to fellowship and find out more about certain candidates.

Heart of Kansas invites the public to grand opening in St. John

Don’t miss an opportunity to meet the team, enjoy a free meal, tour the new facility of Heart of Kansas Family Health Care, Inc., and win prizes. Heart of Kansas will celebrate the grand opening of its new St. John location on Thursday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is invited to this special event which will include grilled hamburgers served by Golden Belt Beef, prize drawings, and a meet and greet with Heart of Kansas CEO Brett Middleton and the medical professionals who will be serving the St. John community.
