South Central Community Foundation awards grants in Kiowa and Stafford counties

Holly Launchbaugh, Executive Director of the South Central Community Foundation (SCCF) awarded more than $21,000 in community, children’s health, teacher’s, and Greensburg Future Fund grants to the communities of Kiowa County earlier this week. Last week, SCCF awarded more than $31,000 in community, children’s health, and teacher’s grants to the communities of Stafford County.Covering seven counties, SCCF’s goal is to reach many different sectors of each community, hopefully making a large impact with limited funding.

Kiowa County hosts K-State tech kick-off

MANHATTAN — Kansas State University’s Technology Development Institute visited Kiowa County in early November to kick off a series of educational product development seminars for high school students and community members in Kansas.Staff from the Technology Development Institute, or TDI, presented to high school students in USD 422 Kiowa County about career possibilities in STEM and the use of new technologies in manufacturing in a morning session on Nov.

Hanks performs for Pratt

From four basic bass in a piano composition written in the 1600s to soaring fanfare notes in a Masterpiece Theater theme song, and from ethereal trills in the upper register to a rampage over middle keys, Duane Hanks of Pratt took listeners on a free concert journey Sunday they won’t likely forget soon.Playing on the First United Methodist Church organ, which has 1550 pipes and is worth $1M, and on a center-stage grand piano, Hanks gave a free concert of classical keyboarding to a packed and appreciate house, performing some arrangements that were of his own making.

Greensburg council hears about police plans and highway expansion

There was room for discussion of police department priorities again at the October 16 meeting of the Greensburg City Council, but after hearing no definitive requests for change, Mayor Matt Christenson closed the discussion with no need for a vote.Police department priorities have been a hot topic in the past for city officials following the acceptance of City Police Chief Aaron Webb last month, and there was some question about the viability of continuing to finance a city police department.
