Cornwell Beef is all about the beef – and family

For four generations, the Cornwells of Stafford County have farmed and raised some of the top beef cattle in Kansas.Now, it is the fifth generation – the grandchildren who range in ages between 15 and 6 – who are taking the next steps for the future of the family name.In the process of learning about science and entrepreneurship, they have created Cornwell Beef – a website and business that markets the family’s pasture-raised beef.“We’re a fourth-generation family farm,” said their grandmother, Lisa Cornwell.

Jazz artists boogie-woogie with Pratt crowd

Those attending last Thursday’s Pratt Community concert stepped back into the jazz, ragtime, and boogie-woogie eras of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, primarily, as the Coots Holland Jazz Quintet performed on piano, percussion, bass, and cornet.Piano player Brian Holland quipped that this was “the world’s smallest quintet,” since the clarinet/saxophonist was unfortunately out sick for the evening.With a propensity for Fats Waller (the five have an album of Waller tunes), the reconfigured quintet entertained concertgoers with their polished playing skills and stories.Band leader Danny Coots shared a little history of the group, which formed 15 or so years ago when he and Holland performed together for the first time in Rwanda (Africa).
