History buff represents Kiowa County at international academic contest, brings home championship awards

There is no doubt that Grayson Ballard, 15, enjoys a good history book. He loves to read and his favorite place to find information is a Barnes and Nobles bookstore. What might surprise some people, is that this rural Kansas teen who lives near Haviland in Kiowa County is an international medal winner in academic contests for history, geography, U.S. military and even maps and flags identification.

Support for local education outlined in Pratt USD 382 bond recap

On May 9, 2023, our community came to the polls and approved a $16.6 million bond issue as an investment in our local school system. This commitment supports our Greenback students in their journey to become successful, contributing members to society who find their purpose and passion. As we finish up our final project, the construction of a new transportation/maintenance facility and grounds, I want to give a recap of the process leading up to the bond vote and an overview of the improvements for our school system.

Applications open for 2025–2026 Leadership League of South Central Kansas

The Leadership League of South Central Kansas, sponsored by South Central Community Foundation, is now accepting applications for its highly regarded leadership development program, serving Barber, Comanche, Kingman, Kiowa, Pratt, Rice, and Stafford counties. The upcoming 2025–2026 class marks the 33rd year of this impactful initiative, originally established as Pratt Leadership 2000 in 1992.
