Support Kansas wildlife with tax return donations

PRATT – More than 4,500 birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans and mollusks are considered nongame species in Kansas – species that are not trapped, fished, or hunted. Collectively, nongame wildlife makes up more than 99 percent of all species in the state. Through tax-deductible donations to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Park’s (KDWP) Chickadee Checkoff program, individuals can support these species through nongame wildlife research, habitat enhancements and restorations, educational projects and more.

Large grass fires burn in Reno and Harvey counties over the weekend

Central, south-central, and eastern areas of Kansas were under Red-Flag Fire Danger Warnings on Saturday, when worst fears wee realized. Reno and Harvey County firefighters, assisted by departments from across the state, battled large grass fires northeast of Hutchinson and in some other areas this past weekend. Many homes were destroyed, property and animals lost and one individual has been confirmed dead because of the fires.

Dodge City CVB announces Rooster Roundup winner

DODGE CITY, Kan. (Mar. 3, 2022) – The Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) hosts two annual pheasant hunting contests. The Bounty Bird, exclusive to Ford County, and the Rooster Roundup in conjunction with seven surrounding counties. Both concluded on January 31. This year’s pheasant season drew hunters from all over the country, with the lucky winner of the Rooster Roundup and the grand prize of $500 in Chamber Bucks being Rex Starnes of Utica, KY.
