Municipal building roof damaged in windstorm

A recent windstorm tore off a large portion of the roof of the Pratt Municipal Building. The Municipal building has eight roof sections, all of which are aging. More than eighty percent of one of these sections was blown off of the building in the windstorm. “We were lucky this… didn’t fly down like frisbies onto Jackson Street onto cars.” said Brad Blankenship, the City Building Inspector.

USD 422 Board of Education members hear from JAG-K students and instructor at meeting

The Board of Education of Unified School District No. 422, State of Kansas, Kiowa County, met for a regular meeting at the school district office, 710 S. Main Street in Greensburg. The meeting was called to order by President Ki Gamble at 8:03 p.m. Those present included: Gamble, Paul Kendall, David Allison, J. Wynn Fleener, Mike Greenleaf, Tony Rhodes, Cory Zenger, Mark Clodfelter, Stephanie White-Neuhold, Travis Powell, Marcus Mitchell, Cassie Kirby (via ZOOM), Liberty Gilkey, Hannah Greenleaf, Landan Monroe, and Patrick Dake.

Governor’s Council on Tax Reform recommends immediate end to state sales tax on groceries

TOPEKA – The Governor’s Council on Tax Reform has published its final report, which strongly advocates for an immediate end to the state sales tax on groceries and the restoration of a more diversified and balanced tax base. The Council found that returning to a better balance of sales, income, and property taxes provides more stability for the state budget and increases equity for the state’s taxpayers.

A major treatment facility for Kansas foster kids faces closure

TOPEKA, Kansas — One of the largest residential facilities in Kansas for boys who need more help than most foster care homes can offer looks to be spared from closure. Sequel of Kansas LLC signed the original lease for the Lakeside Academy in Wichita around 2008 and recently told the Department for Children and Families it would no longer operate the facility.

Kiowa County High School students put on their finest clothes on Saturday, April 9 and went to Greensburg for their 2022 Prom. Some random photos from the event follow. An after-prom event took place from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m. on April 10 for those who wished to extend their prom experience a little longer. A good time was had by all.
