KSHSAA 2-1A State Softball May 26-27 - Lemon Park ball fields host the best in these divisions for state tournment competition in Pratt First Sawyer City Carnival May 28 - The first ever Sawyer City Carnival is planned for Saturday, May 28 and will feature bouncy houses, craft, and treat vendors as well as planned games and activities. Fun for all ages to be sure, and lots of visiting with neighbors.

It’s time to plug the pool drain

Pratt’s current municipal swimming pool, which has served the community for 90 years, is rapidly approaching the end of its useful life. This is not news to the Pratt City Commission, but as Public Works Director Russ Rambat explained at the commission’s May 16 meeting, it is time for a new pool.

McPherson retires from leadership position at Skyline Schools

Longtime Skyline Schools faculty member Herb McPherson has been involved with education for more than 25 years, but last week he retired from his position as USD 438 Principal. He said he has enjoyed his years of interacting with the people of Pratt County and this would forever be his home, but he was looking forward to playing more golf and spending more time with his grandkids in the coming future.

Board of Education approves several pay increases for next year

The Board of Education of Unified School District No. 422, State of Kansas, Kiowa County, met for a regular meeting at the school district office, 710 S. Main Street in Greensburg. The meeting was called to order by President Ki Gamble at 8:04 p.m. Present were Gamble, Paul Kendall, David Allison, Mike Greenleaf, Tony Rhodes, Cory Zenger. J. Wynn Fleener was absent.

Forensics team finishes successful season

The Kiowa County High School forensics team ended the 2022 season with an excellent day of competition at both the KSHSAA 1A State Championship Tournament at Salina Central High School and the KSH-SAA State Forensics Festival at Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday, May 7. The Mavericks placed 4th overall as a team (out of 35 schools) at State Champs, and junior Lucy Libby earned a 1 Rating and a gold medal at the Festival site.
