Two authors who live on opposite coasts of the United States will come to Kansas in October to accept the 2022 William Allen White Children’s Book Awards. Voters in Grades 3 through 5 selected “Wildfire” by Rodman Philbrick. Voters in Grades 6 through 8 selected “The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise” by Dan Gemeinhart.
Heavy on the minds and hearts of many in Pratt County after the 4th of July were thoughts of families dealing with unexpected deaths and critical injuries that occurred over the holiday weekend. On Sunday, July 3, Pratt County Dispatch received a 911 call for help in a pasture near 294 SE 10th Street.
This year, Pratt’s annual Oktoberfest will be held at Lemon Park instead of at the Green Sports Complex as in its previous four years. Three of the event’s organizers, Jackie Mundt, Dakota Holtgrieve, and Scott Goodheart presented their reasons for the change of venue to the Pratt City Board of Commissioners at its July 5th meeting. Mayor Deeds was not able to be present at the meeting as he was in the hospital.
The Board of Education of Unified School District No. 422, State of Kansas, Kiowa County, met for a regular meeting at the school district office, 710 S. Main Street in Greensburg. The meeting was called to order by President Ki Gamble at 7:02 a.m.
CherryRoad Technologies CEO Jeremy Gulban made a quick trip through South Central Kansas on Friday, July 8, stopping in to visit Pratt Tribune editor Jennifer Stultz and meet several Pratt community representatives as part of a meet-and-greet tour of company holdings.

The three-generation family business offers an array of printing/decal needs: vehicle wraps, screen printing, bindery, vinyl signs, business cards, invitations, calendars, and more from their location at 405 S. Main in Pratt.
The USD 350 Recreation baseball program finished their season on July 7 with a local pool party. More summer fun will be had at the Wetlands Water Park in Great Bend on July 24, 2022 from 7-9 p.m. for all participants and their families.
The Stafford County Board of County Commissioners met in regular session on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, in the Commission Room in the Annex. Chairman Wycoff called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Present: Todd Wycoff, Bryce Garner, and Clayton Grimmett.

On June 25, Lyn and Larry Fenwick of Macksville took some special visitors to the Stafford Co. Museum Library in Stafford and the Homecoming Hall Museum in St. John, where they were hosted by Michael Hathaway. These visitors were modern day relatives of Isaac Werner, the subject of Lyn’s book “Prairie Bachelor: The Story of a Kansas Homesteader and the Populist Movement.” (University Press of Kansas, 2020).
