Two Pratt County students are among the fall 2021 and spring 2022 graduates of Fort Hays State University as announced July 18 by FHSU University Communications in Hays. Bailey Lauren Batman, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, while Payje Marie Dymond, graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies degree.
TOPEKA — Communities across Kansas are at an increased risk for West Nile virus infections, the state health department announced Friday. West Nile virus is the most common cause of mosquito-borne illnesses in the country and spreads from the bug’s bite rather than person-to-person contact.
The Kansas State Board of Nursing has approved Barclay College in Haviland to offer the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The Barclay School of Nursing has now submitted the program to the accreditor, and the program is pending approval by the Higher Learning Commission (H.L.C.).

On Friday July 15, the Board of Directors at Pratt Regional Medical Center voted not to retain the services of Darrell Lavender, the hospital’s CEO. Lavender had served as CEO following the retirement of Susan Paige who led the organization for 27 years. The transition to the new CEO’s policies had been “difficult” according to a Friday letter from the hospital’s marketing director, which can be read in full on the A2 Business page of this week’s Pratt Tribune.
August Siefkes of Hudson auditioned for, was accepted to, and participated in the John Philip Sousa National Honor Band June 26-30 in Massachusetts. Siefkes, 17, will be a senior at Great Bend High School this fall.
