We often overlook important truths when reading the opening and closing statements of Paul’s letters thinking, perhaps, they contain only formalities without much in the way of edifying content. But we would be mistaken to think this. The opening line of his letter to the Romans is a case in point: “Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God...” (Rom. 1:1). Here Paul asserts three things about himself: that he is a servant of Christ Jesus, that he is called to be an apostle, and that he had been set apart for the gospel of God.

PCC Athletics hosts 4th Annual Beaver Backer Golf Tournament

Pratt, Kan. - The fourth annual Beaver Backer Golf Tournament was held at Park Hills Country Club on Saturday, August 20. There were 14 teams who participated in the tournament to help raise funds for the Pratt Community College (PCC) Athletic Department. The tournament started at 9:00 am and included a performance from the Beaver Cheer team, eighteen holes of golf, a visit from all 13 athletic teams on the course, lunch and an auction following the tournament.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Pratt-area children learn about packing crisis care kits and school kits for needy children in other countries, supervised by mission-minded adults Marcia Shrack, Ike Agwu, Stacey Canfield and Arthur Oltmans during Vacation Bible School earlier this month at the Abundant Harvest Church of the Nazarene. Art for art’s sake, and more

Creativity seems to flourish under the hand of Kiowa County artist Jayci Smitherman. Not only do her changing and colorful windows decorate the front of Haviland Broadband offices on Main Street in Haviland where she is a marketing manager and customer service representative, but she and her husband, Dwight Smitherman, have completely gutted and creatively remodeled their Kiowa County home. Now she is using her artistic talents to make and sell resin boards that have a variety of uses, with proceeds to go towards a special fine-arts trip she plans to take with her daughter in winter.
