PRATT, Kan. — The spotlight returns to Pratt, Kansas, the proud home of the Miss Kansas Competition for more than 80 years, as 21 accomplished women and 14 outstanding teens vie for the titles of Miss Kansas 2025 and Miss Kansas’ Teen 2025.
The 2025 Miss Kansas and Miss Kansas Teen competitions will take place in Pratt, Kansas the first week of June, with a Kick Off to the Crown event starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, at the Pratt Elks Lodge, 1103 W. 5th Street. Tickets may be purchased at www.misskansas.org for this night of Bingo fun with the candidates, as well as for the preliminary and finals nights of competition at Pratt Community College.
The Greensburg City Council met May 20, 2025 at City Hall in a rescheduled meeting as lack of electrical power necessitated a move from their May 19 regular plan. The tornadic storm that brushed the east side of the city on Sunday, May 18 caused widespread power outages across the county but left no damage to city property, according to a report by City Manager Stacey Barnes.
TOPEKA – Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland today announced the Kansas Department of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2025 To The Stars: Kansas Business Awards. The increasingly popular annual award program recognizes companies and individuals around the state for the positive impact they make on the Kansas economy and their communities.
The 2025 Ms. Wheelchair Kansas (MWKS) was recently crowned during a weekend ceremony held March 16, 2025, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Lawrence, Kan. Autumn Bertels of Lawrence received her crown after participating in four judging sessions, as well as many other activities, throughout the three-day event held March 14-16. The weekend concluded with a formal crowning, where Autumn was chosen as the new titleholder and fellow contestants Magda Carlos-Trevino of Olathe and Jessica Soderlund of Beloit were recognized for their accomplishments. New Junior Miss and Little Miss titleholders were also announced at the ceremony. Isabel Einwich of Bel Aire will serve as Junior Miss Wheelchair Kansas 2025 and Mia Gaumer of St. Mary’s will serve as Little Miss Wheelchair Kansas 2025.
At the May 19 regular meeting, the Pratt City Commission addressed the issue of its emergency dispatchers’ pay. Although the City Manager has authority to raise wages on her own, Gina Goff wanted to be sure and apprise the city commissioners of the change and receive their blessing. Pratt has had a very difficult time retaining dispatchers.
The Wheat State Mercantile opened its doors at 303 S. Main earlier this month, bringing to Pratt a place to buy homegrown, homemade and hometown products, including direct market beef grown just down the road in Pratt County.
The day was dreary but the colors vivid, the voices strong, and the honor heartfelt as people gathered to in recognition of those whose lives were lost in service to country and freedom at the 141st Memorial Day Service in Iuka.
