Governor Kelly signs bill establishing Task Kansas Water task force

Governor Laura Kelly ceremonially signed Senate Substitute for House Bill 2172 last week in Hays, establishing the water program task force to create a long-term investment program for water with a dedicated revenue source. The task force will also evaluate current funding for water and the state’s water planning statutes, submitting reports detailing its findings to the governor and the Kansas Legislature in 2026 and 2027.

Deal Yourself a Winning Fair this year in Pratt

Last week the Maker Zone at the Pratt Public Library was busy with young people who came in to create decorative playing cards that will be part of the 2025 Pratt County Fair. This year’s fair theme is Deal Yourself a Winning Fair, and participants in the card challenge were given a chance to let their creativity take over as they made cards for a special class at this year’s event.

Political picnic provides fellowship and candidate sharing

On Saturday, July 12 at 6 p.m. the Kingman County Democrats hosted a picnic for south central Kansas residents to meet, greet, and listen to candidates running for Kansas state elected offices. With three speakers at the picnic, as well as beef burgers, plenty of side dishes, and a turn-out of around 50 people, Pratt County residents joined with Kingman County citizens at the Cunningham park to fellowship and find out more about certain candidates.

Donations accepted for youth summer camp attenders through Core Life

Pratt and Kiowa County youth have been hard at work raising money to go to summer camp under the direction of Youth Core Ministries directors in both counties. With camp dates just around the corner, Director of Core Life and Pratt Operations Kyle Nauman visited the Pratt Lions Club recently to talk about the impact of Core Life on local youth and the need for community support.
