When we moved into a new development in Texas, the land had been an unplowed prairie, it’s commercial use having been a pasture for cattle. It was covered with beautiful wildflowers, and once we built our home and I gardened, finding fossils was common. We know our planet has gone through changes. The question is, are more changes coming?
Blades Hair Studio co-owners Lisa Goertzen and Leisa Eck still offer haircuts, hugs, and hospitality at their place of work, they have just moved their business to a new location at 423 S. Main, Pratt. The business was formerly located at 105 E. Fifth Street.
As the 2024-25 basketball season progresses, the Pratt High Girls’ team has begun to catch fire as of late. Most recently, they faced off against the Nickerson Panthers twice, as well as the Haven Wildcats, and the Lady Greenbacks prevailed in all three contests.
Kiowa County High Schools students Regan Greenleaf (junior) and Emerson Sherer (sophomore) were selected as 24-25 SPIAA Big Read award winners. Greenleaf was awarded a bronze medal for her 3-D Artwork project. Sherer was awarded a gold medal and an Award of Excellence for her creative writing poetry piece.
The Skyline Thunderbird Boys’ Team was home in the Thunderdome for a regular season game against the Chargers of Burrton in a rather unorthodox Friday night game. The Varsity Boys’ game was a standalone event in that Burrton has been fighting a numbers game in both middle and high school. Therefore, they did not field any girl’s or junior varsity boys’ teams. The 73-11 contest was a confidence builder for Skyline with an opportunity to get many players in the game.
At the February 3 regular meeting of the Pratt City Commission, commissioners denied a request from the Pratt Area Chamber of Commerce to continue paying them $1,500 per month for Travel and Tourism through the end of their fiscal year in June. The city is dropping its Travel and Tourism payments to the chamber because it hired Tiffany Riley as Tourism Ambassador and since the chamber director requested that those duties be moved to Riley and the Travel and Tourism office, that money will now paid to her. Chamber board representatives at the meeting said they had hoped that the city might continue paying them through the end of their fiscal year because they had built their budget on the assumption that that money would be there. Since the City of Pratt is a dues-paying member of the chamber, the chamber will continue to receive money from the city, just not the amount set aside for travel and tourism budget.
It’s just a little play on words but it has turned out to be a very successful fundraiser for art programs and workshops at the 5.4.7 Arts Center in Greensburg since 2016. It is the Soup-In-Your-Bowl event that brings local Greensburg folk into the art museum after church on Super Bowl Sunday for a some great-tasting soup and a free pottery bowl to take home before the big game.

Pratt Community College’s Student Life is proud to announce that renowned literary scholar and historian Dr. John Edgar Tidwell will be visiting campus for a special lecture. The event, will be held at Dennis Lesh Sports Arena at 2:00pm and is free and open to the public.
The Ascension Lutheran Church of Pratt hosted their 8th Annual Trivia Contest on February 1, 2025 at the Pratt 4-H Building. Contestants packed the house and lively action prevailed throughout the evening.
