Visitors to the McDonald’s restaurant in Pratt are liable to encounter a young community leader on the rise. Gabriel Heredia is a high school junior from Pratt High School who is making waves and setting an example for young and old alike. Last month, Heredia was named a winner of a “Put People First” award from Joe Lane’s McDonald’s Restaurant organization.

Mardi Gras is a celebration usually associated with New Orleans, a pre-Lenten party of sorts. Last weekend the Pratt Municipal Building was packed with people of all ages, Saturday, March 1, for the Vernon Filley Art Museum’s adaptation of a Mardi Gra celebration, with an emphasis on fine art, southern cuisine, and a party atmosphere. The auditorium was totally and beautifully decorated for the occasion which is a fundraiser for the art museum’s future events for community impact.

The Pratt Management Unit – Pratt, Barber, Stafford, Kiowa and Comanche County Conservation Districts will be hosting a Local Working Group (LWG) meeting on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Stafford County Annex 210 E 3rd Ave, St John, Kansas. A light lunch will be served. The purpose of this meeting is to make recommendations to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist related to addressing natural resource concerns at local level.

The USD 438 Board of Education met on Monday, February 10, when they had their regular monthly meeting. Here, they discussed the latest news that concerned their district as the second semester of the 2024-25 school year rolls on. Board President Rex Robinson called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Pratt High School brought home two state champions from the recent 2025 State Wrestling Tournament in Salina. Taye Wilson won the title at 175 lbs. in 4a boys competition, while Wendy Candia won gold in the girls 130 lbs. division. To top off the exciting weekend, head coaches from both the Pratt girls and boys divisions were named Outstanding Coaches of the Year in Sportsmanship by the Kansas Wrestling Officials Association. Kendall Miller is the coach of the Greenback girls team, and Anthony Brown is the coach of the Greenback boys’ wrestling team

Pratt Livestock is the place to find good, green, home-raised grazing steers by the pot load, or top quality bred cows, or everything from baby calves to fat steers. One just has to have the money to buy them.

The Pratt Faith Partnership is once again sponsoring a series of luncheons during Lent. These meals and programs will be held at the First United Methodist Church (100 N. Jackson) in Pratt every Wednesday during Lent. The only exception to the Wednesday lunchtime meetings will be that of Holy Week, when the luncheon will be held on Good Friday instead of that Wednesday.
