Something is missing on the Pratt business skyline just west of the US Highway 54/500 and 61 junction. The big black and white stallion rearing into the sky above Lisa’s Western Wear at 1715 E. 1st was toppled in last week’s Tuesday night wind storm. He fell to the ground with a broken leg and was discovered Wednesday morning by store manager Lisa Washington.
Seven members of the class of 2025 Kansas Master Teachers were named as award winners by Emporia State University. Jennifer Gillespie, a teacher from USD 351 Macksville was chosen for this honor and was recognized recently by Kansas State Representative District 113 Brett Fairchild at the state house in Topeka.
Actually any time from mid- to late-March is fine for potato planting. Be sure to buy seed potatoes rather than using those bought for cooking. Seed potatoes are certified disease free and have plenty of starch to sprout as quickly as soil temperatures allow. Most seed potatoes can be cut into four pieces, though large potatoes may yield more, and small less. Each seed piece should be between 1.5 and 2 ounces. Seed pieces this size will have more than one eye.
Several members of the Pratt Lions Club received special recognition at their Wednesday, March 5, 2025 meeting, held at noon in the Shrack Meeting Room at Pratt Regional Medical Center. First Vice District Governor Lou Morgan of Stafford attended the meeting, along with his wife Patty, to present awards to Denis Rasmussen, Stacey Canfield, and Keenan Stultz.
The Lady Tigers of St. John-Hudson are State bound after a 53-43 victory over Spearville at Kiowa County in the 1A-I sub-state finals. The Lady Tigers will play in Dodge City on Wednesday after a pep rally sendoff in their home town at the school. Classes dismiss at noon so students may attend and support their Lady Tigers from USD 350. St. John-Hudson takes on Centralia at 2 p.m. Wednesday
Pratt, Kan. - The No. 6 ranked Pratt Community College wrestling team was in action this past weekend March 7-8 at the NJCAA Men’s Wrestling Championships held in Council Bluff, Iowa. The Beavers finished ninth overall for another top 10 performance with three all-Americans. The story of the weekend for Pratt was that the Beavers No. 1-ranked wrestler Melton Powe won the national championship title at 165 pounds. The other two all-Americans from Pratt included 2nd ranked James Bankston at 285 pounds, and 7th ranked Johnny Cash Thomas at 157 pounds. Both finished in seventh place in the national tournament.

Thanks to the generosity of nearly 400 donors, the Foundation raised over $59,000 in just 24 hours, making this the most successful Give FFA Day in Kansas history. Kansas also ranked third nationally in state giving, highlighting the widespread support for agricultural education and FFA programs. Previously, the record was $23,000.
