Rural impact applications sought by The Heartland Project

Charitable giving that makes a local impact, particularly for rural communities served by The Peoples Bank, is the impetus behind The Heartland Project that began late 2024 and runs through 2025. The Peoples Heartland Foundation, established by The Peoples Bank which has offices in Pratt, Smith, Osborne, Kiowa, Kingman and Barber counties, initiated The Heartland Project which will award $50,000 to approved plans in each county for a total of $300,000, all for the asking this year.

Body Venture Exhibit comes to Skyline

Learning about Anatomy, Physiology, and healthy living is the goal of Body Venture, a traveling exhibit that is visiting elementary schools throughout Kansas. On Tuesday, March 4, more than 113 students from Skyline Elementary School got to experience the walk-through event that stressed the importance of healthy living now and into the future.

Chickens now legal in Pratt city limits

At its March 4 regular meeting, the Pratt city commission revised its livestock ordinance to allow up to 5 backyard chickens. The new ordinance specifies that the chickens must be properly contained and cannot be closer than 5 feet from the property line or 20 feet from a neighboring house. Roosters continue to be prohibited due to noise.
