A recent piece, Jesus Stills the Storm, has been selected to be displayed as part of a “Miracles” exhibit at Christ Cathedral, downtown Salina, through April 18. His metal welded sculpture is part of an annual pre-Easter art exhibit that featured 14 regional artists this year, included fellow Prattan Amy Clarkson.
A few Saturdays ago, I had to attend a company safety meeting in Sabetha, KS. My wife and oldest granddaughter, Aspen, went with me. Normally, after the meeting is over, we go to the Cracker Barrel in Junction City and then go shopping in Salina.
Three years ago a summer storm caused the roof of the high school gym in Sawyer to cave in, destroying a community gathering place and part of the home of Patsy Aubley-Janzen. This year, on Tuesday, March 18, another storm with 70+ mph wind gusts spitting snow balls every which way blew out the southern wall of the Sawyer School gym. Bricks exploded across the south lawn of the former schoolyard and across Lorraine Street, some of them reaching the yard of Leon McCullough who lives on the other side.
