HUTCHINSON – Governor Laura Kelly joined local leaders in Hutchinson today for a roundtable discussion that focused on how her administration can continue to support economic and agricultural growth in Central. Topics addressed during the discussion included the state’s water resources, logistics and distribution, and the Kansas workforce.

Foreign landowners must report holding

News Release — Lori Kreutzer, County Executive Director of the Pratt and Barber County Farm Service Agency, today reminded foreign investors who buy, sell or hold a direct or indirect interest in agricultural lands in the United States that they are required under the Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act to report their holdings and transactions to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

Family farm expands to include dairy and meat goats in Butler County

Outside of Towanda people can find a family farm that continues to grow and adapt as each family member finds their passion. Varner Farms began three generations ago and is currently operated by brothers Jeff and Calvin Varner, who raise row crops, hay and cattle. Calvin and his wife, Carla, a western Kansas native, have three grown daughters: Amy, Tara and Shelby. When they were younger, those three girls spearheaded their own operation: a dairy and meat goat herd called 3 Varner Girls that’s still running today.
