From Kansas weeds to quantum physics, Pratt-born artist paints her way to fame

It's not often a Friday Lunch-and-Learn event at the Vernon Filley Art Museum combines mythical painting, quantum physics, classical music and Kansas weeds, but last week Pratt native Laura Krusemark's presentation managed to do just that. A larger-than-usual crowd attended the jaw-dropping exhibition and many came away much inspired from the event.

Area youth are learning how to get jobs, and keep them

Kathleen Norman, Assistant Director of Stafford County Economic Development, has an office in St. John at 311 N. Broadway, but lately she has been getting out to surrounding communities to facilitate Empowerment Training with the Jobs of America’s Graduates-Kansas (JAG-K) Program. She will wrap up a nine-week pilot session at Stafford High School in early December that has been keeping her busy for several weeks now.

Seniors celebrate Monday supper with warm soup in St. John

Twenty-one Seniors enjoyed an evening of warm soup, complimentary side dishes and desert on a chilly 1st of the month Monday Senior Supper. Thank you to Velda Young, Carolyn Mix, Deanna Williamson and Dean Delp and Sandy Smith for the soup. Also thank you to all who attended and brought delish side dishes. Rebecca McDaniel completed our warm and happy evening with piano music that brought back wonderful memories.

In my day, living in the country, harmless pranks were just expected, like putting live pigeons into neighbor’s mailboxes and the annual toilet paper blanketing of someone’s front lawn in the middle of the night (which today might just get you arrested for blatant waste of valuable property or something.)

We have seen His promises come to pass; we just need to be faithful

Jeff and I had been back in Iola, Kansas for about three years, after being asked to leave our last church. While we were healing and restoring, lots of things happened there. We had our youngest child. I learned to play the piano. Relationships were restored that had been broken when we left the church in Iola. We even served as an interim pastor at a church in a nearby town. All while we waited and healed.
