Kansas Day celebration continues, courtesy of winter weather

Kansas Day at the Pratt County Historical Museum is always something special, with retired schoolteachers coming out in costume to lead and share with local students and history that comes to life with local cowboys demonstrating riding, roping and gear basics. This year, winter weather caused a stir that resulted in rescheduled visits and an extra week of Kansas fun.

Washburn University Announces Fall 2021 Dean’s List Honorees

TOPEKA, KS -- Washburn University has announced its fall 2021 Dean’s List honorees. To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled in 12 hours of graded credits and earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 to 3.99. Local students earning this distinction include Angel Hayes of Lewis and Zayreli Reyes of St John.

Dalton C Davidson Named to Mars Hill University Dean’s List

MARS HILL, NC (01/31/2022)-- Dalton C Davidson of Pratt is one of 362 students named to the Honor Roll of the Academic Dean at Mars Hill University for the fall 2021 semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 on a minimum of 12 semester hours, and carry no grade below a C.

Sarah Navarro Named to SNHU President’s List

MANCHESTER, NH -- Sarah Navarro of Pratt has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s Fall 2021 President’s List. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above are named to the President’s List.

CCF SCHOLARSHIPS DUE MARCH 15

South Central Community Foundation (SCCF) is excited to offer nearly 40 scholarships to its seven county service area. New this year, the Foundation will be accepting all applications on an online portal, which will allow students to submit a universal application and then apply for each individual scholarship they are eligible for.

Illness causes short staffing

On January 18, the Kiowa County Health Department reported to Kiowa County commissioners that they are currently short-staffed due to illness. Despite this problem, COVID testing is going well. They are testing 15-20 residents each day and have 85 test kits on hand. There is a Nationwide testing supply shortage. Test kits are not available from the government or for purchase.

Weather conditions caused accidents; round two scheduled to hit Tuesday night

Winter weather blasted into Kansas last Tuesday with snowfall amounts totaling over 20 inches in some parts of the state. Pratt County dodged double-digit totals but still recorded 4 to 5 inches on the far western side of the county and 3 inches three miles west-northwest of Preston, according to the U.S. National Weather Service at Dodge City.
