The Jolly Workers 4-H Club held its monthly meeting on January 2, 2022, at the Hudson Community Hall. The meeting was called to order by Ian Dunn, President. Pledges were led by Ryer Ward. Roll call was by Secretary, Weston Peterson and was “What is your favorite drink?”

When Typhoon Odette hit the Philippine Islands just before Christmas a few months ago, it wasn’t noted by many in Pratt, but Meriam Thompson paid attention to the weather news. Her family lived on the island of Jandayan in the central part of the country and when she finally received word from them, it wasn’t good.
Four to six inches of snow fell in Pratt last week, causing both USD 382 Pratt and Skyline Schools to cancel classes on Wednesday and Thursday. A two-hour start delay on Friday gave students an added feeling of time off from the daily grind.

The new Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities opportunity will finance pilot projects that create market opportunities for U.S. agricultural and forestry products that use climate-smart practices and include innovative, cost-effective ways to measure and verify greenhouse gas benefits. USDA is now accepting project applications for fiscal year 2022.

The Miss Southern Kansas Pageant is back in Greensburg after an 18-year hiatus. The 2022 event was hosted at the Twilight Theater and Community auditorium on January 22, with three titles up for grabs: Miss Southern Plains 2022, Miss Southern Kansas 2022 and Miss Kiowa County 2022. After competitions in talent, interview and evening wear, respective title winners were Ayanna Hensley as Miss Kiowa County, Emily Rugg as Miss Southern Kansas and Kaycee Krell as Miss Southern Plains. This competition is a vital preliminary to the Miss Kansas and Miss America competitions that occur later this year.
Russell Gimpel of Pratt has a heart for helping others. He sees and recognizes needs others might not see. It’s a station in life that comes naturally to him, having grown up with parents who were always involved in helping others or serving those less fortunate in some way.
GBT started in 1953 and next year is their 70th anniversary. They have 38 employees and are currently hiring a full-time customer service representative in the office in St. John. The different occupations in the business include website designer, accountants, wireless technicians, IT computer technicians, managers, marketers, customer service representatives, and a general manager over all areas.
