Free tax help is skimpy for those needing that service in Pratt

Pratt citizens who used to get their taxes figured for free at the Pratt Senior Center under the RSVP organization are no longer able to get that service this year. According to Tara Pagenkopf, who started as the Director of RSVP just last week, the retirement of Tiffany Ailstock in December 2021 created a void that could not be filled due to the timing of training needed.

Pratt Regional Medical Center announced it has been recognized as a 2022 Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, this annual recognition program honors outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX™.

Mustang gals win over the Coyotes

Macksville (10-6, 1-1 CPL) led 16-6 after the first quarter eight minutes before outscoring the Kinsley Coyotes 13-7 in the second quarter for a 29-17 advantage at halftime From there, the Lady Stangs were able to widen their lead on their way to the 37-point win. Kambry Adams led the Lady Stangs with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Mayce Russell added 13 points, 3 assists and 7 steals. Senior Abi Ibarra ended with 6 points, 7 steals, and 3 assists. Junior Joselin Garcia added 9 points, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 5 steals. The Lady Stangs’ next match-up is against the Lady Aces of Bucklin.

Pratt men stay ahead of Indy in conference match-up

Independence Community College traveled to Pratt Community College to take on the Beavers in a conference match-up but they didn’t go home with a victory as the Beavers won 87-81. DJ Bailey opened the game stealing the ball and taking it down court for a layup for the home team.

Barclay men win shot-out against Ozark Christian

The Barclay Bears men’s basketball team beat Ozark Christian College last week 103-100. This game was a shootout from start to finish. Ozark Christian shot 56.5 percent from the field in the win and was 17-of-31 from the perimeter. They were a crisp 13-of-21 from the free-throw line.

KDA offers specialty crop webinar series

MANHATTAN, Kansas — During the month of March and the first week of April, the Kansas Department of Agriculture will offer a Specialty Crop Lunch and Learn Webinar Series for those interested in the specialty crop industry. Topics of interest include production practices, specialized equipment, floriculture, diversifying and scaling your operation, turning your specialty crop operation into an agritourism destination, and specialty crop marketing plans and strategies. The six-part webinar series will be held at noon every Tuesday from March 1 through April 5.
