New College of Education program helps Kansans change careers, become middle and high school teachers

MANHATTAN — Kansas State University’s Master of Arts in teaching program for secondary education, a pathway to teaching for career-changers in Kansas, has received approval from the Kansas State Board of Education. This approval allows Kansas schools to hire qualified candidates in the program to serve as teachers of record on a restricted license while they earn their master’s degree and recommendation for an initial teaching license.

Luna comes home to help Lemon in Pratt

Tara Lemon of Pratt waited almost three years for a special occasion that finally happened last week in Concordia, Kansas. She was able to attend special training sessions for therapy dog owners with the CARES (Canine Assistance Rehabilitation Education Services) program, and on Friday, brought home her new service dog Luna. On Sunday she took Luna for a walk in Pratt’s Lemon Park, wasting no time to get to introduce her special dog to life as she knows it in Pratt.

Aerial surveys to document Lesser Prairie-Chicken population trends

EMPORIA – Aerial surveys for lesser prairie-chickens will begin March 23 and run through mid-May in five states containing lesser prairie-chicken habitat, including Kansas. The surveys are conducted annually by the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) to document population trends and determine how the species is responding to habitat management strategies identified in the Lesser Prairie-Chicken Rangewide Conservation Plan.

KDWP Commission to meet March 31 in Topeka

PRATT – The Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission will hold its next public meeting on March 31 at the Topeka and Shawnee County Library, 1515 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. The public is welcomed and encouraged to join Commissioners and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) staff to conduct business either in person or virtually via Zoom.
