Somebody is watching: Two stories, one great lesson

Story Number One: World War II produced many heroes. One was a man from Chicago, by the name of Butch O’Hare. He was a fighter pilot assigned to an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. One day while he was on a mission, he made an extraordinary choice to do the right thing regardless of personal cost. Though his decision included a great risk of real personal danger, it resulted in the deliverance and rescue of the fleet. Butch O’Hare was awarded one of the nation’s highest military honors. Later he had an airport named after him: O’Hare International in Chicago.

Walking a mile in someone’s shoes

It’s easy to mock and be critical, and unfortunately, our human nature loves to judge unfairly and display negative thoughts about others. If we could only remember that many people are going through some type of painful trial which usually explains why they seem peculiar. I often counsel those who are struggling with personal problems and it changes our perspective when we know the bigger picture. As Christians, we are called to be a light that represents God’s nature and this includes forbearance, understanding, and compassion. This is so that everyone can see Christ and hopefully will inspire them to learn more about who He is. When we act ugly and rude, we are actually turning others away from the message of grace and love that we proclaim is what the lost world desperately needs. Whether you’ve noticed it or not, those around us are carefully observing us which is having a direct impact on what they think about God and who we are. Every day we have opportunities to do what Jesus would do.

A political asteroid hit the earth in 1517, and another is headed our way today

It seems strange that an issue about religion posted on an early “facebook” platform, the door of a church, changed not only the faith of the Western world, but the form of its governments, the way of its economic life, and the strength of its science. That is what happened in 1517 when Martin Luther raised concerns about his own Catholic Church.
