It’s moving time; here’s how to do it scam-free

Since 1997, May has been designated as National Moving Month. It marks the beginning of the nation’s busiest time of year for moving – May through August. Your Better Business Bureau (BBB) fielded nearly 1,100 complaints against moving companies last year. BBB’s Scam Tracker had reports of more than $730,000 lost to moving scammers, a 216% increase from 2020. As we approach mid-May, this is a good time for consumers to educate themselves on how to avoid victimization by unscrupulous companies, and smooth out the famously rocky process of relocating their residence.

But in the case of newspapers, many are still operating with the same business model established when Benjamin Day opened the first penny press nearly 200 years ago. A University of Kansas professor of journalism is leading a project to test a new model based on research with publishers and readers to help rural newspapers adapt, survive and thrive.

It is not the nation but the church that must repent

The National Day of Prayer was just celebrated on May 5. A verse that always comes up at this time is 2 Chronicles 7:14. I do not think that most people know the circumstances surrounding this verse. It is commonly assumed that it was during a time of exile, a time when the people were already under judgment by God. But it wasn’t. It was a grand time of great celebration. Solomon had completed the first Temple in Jerusalem and had voiced a prayer of dedication to God.

Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.” There is a very special and supernatural connection between the Christian and God. That connection is built on our understanding of God’s thinking and His spiritual influence in our lives.
