A season of change: Live by faith

A letter to my daughter celebrating the third anniversary of her college graduation this month! Did you ever wonder what your kid was doing?? Wonder why they were making the choices they were making?? Well here is a little of our story I wrote to my daughter in 2019!

It is more blessed to give than to receive

The seven steps to Good Trouble in this series were drawn from Laura Haviland’s life. They were also inspired by my research into her autobiography, as well as life examples from Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, Levi Coffin, and of course from the principles and concepts found in the Bible and specifically the life of Christ. I have shared several stories with you from my book, Underground Angel-the life story of Laura Haviland in the pages of the Pratt Tribune.

Worship God, not the Bible

For many people of faith, there is a great love of the Bible – and for good reason! The Bible is a treasure trove of stories about God interacting with humanity, it is a rich resource for learning how our ancestors in the faith made difficult decisions, it contains beloved prayers, it is the source of many of our favorite words of hope, and it makes freely available teachings that have benefitted the entire world. I give thanks to God for this good book! Do you as well?

Christian Leaders and Controversies: The Case of Francis Collins

There is always a dilemma for Christians in best handling and reacting to the positions and counsel of Christian leaders. Often these are people we have grown to trust and respect as followers of Christ. Their convictions at times are consistent with Christian principles and biblical wisdom. They champion appropriate positions and defend causes from a historically Christian perspective. They gain traction and respect even among cultural, political, and religious opponents because of the internally consistent strength of their arguments and their winsome and gracious demeanor.

World music enjoyed by many in Pratt

A sizable crowd welcomed the Canadian trio, Sultans of String, to the Carpenter Auditorium stage at Pratt Community College for the last community concert of the season May 7 at the Pratt Community College Carpenter Auditorium.

Growing fish, worms and plants is all part of greenhouse project at USD 350

The residential carpentry class of St. John High and local volunteers were conscripted to build a greenhouse for Joel Delp’s Human Environmental Resources Class in September of 2021. Also, any other class who wanted to have a project that included the greenhouse would have access to it. The Human Environmental Resources Class set up an aquaponics tank to store over 50 Blue Tilapia as a main project. The class also started a small amount of crops.

Local professionals complete leadership learning

Congratulations to the 2021-2022 graduates of the Pratt Leadership League, who were recognized last week during their last session for their year long dedication and achievement. “What a fantastic year getting to work with these terrific and special people,” said program facilitator Lisa Perez-Miller, who was joined by Jeanette Siemens in providing organization for the league).

Rain and heat characterize the beginning of May

A few days of cooler temperatures and actual moisture falling to the ground had many in Pratt County feeling thankful, along with the birds and other outdoors creatures. But rainfall totals didn’t amount to much, and by the following Monday, temperatures soared to near 100 degrees as the reality of life in the Gateway to the High Plains set back in.
