Doskocil was God’s gift to his community

“WHEN THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLE, GOD IS ANSWERING.” Albert Einstein Many people think that they are God’s gift to the world. This is the height of hubris.

‘Tis the season of graduations and as the mother of four children, I can relate to all the hoopla going on around town these days. While our children didn’t grow up in Pratt, we do have one Pratt High School and two Pratt Community College graduates in our family, but when we say PCC made an impact in our lives, it goes a lot deeper than diplomas, degrees and a walk across the stage in Dennis Lesh arena. More than five years ago, our family ended up moving to Pratt, for a variety of reasons, but we were drawn here because of the college and the people in it at that time.
The merry month of May is here and with it comes some wonderful holidays. We will look at three of them.
The sweet smell of ripening wheat is filling the countryside these days. As wheat fields slowly turn from green to golden, Kansas farmers await the much anticipated day when they can bring it all into the silos, bins and grain elevators. Many of us who live in wheat country would likely agree: this is one of the most beautiful times of the year. As the Emerald City-esque days of winter wheat grow into harvest time, awesome colorful sunsets (and even sunrises) await us in the dust-filled skies.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – A K-State Research and Extension specialist who has helped promote healthy lifestyles in Kansas for more than three decades said the willingness of many agencies to work together on health issues has paid dividends for the state’s communities.
The small town of Sawyer, Kansas in Pratt County might have 80 residents, plus or minus a few of the littlest residents, but just about everyone there, and in nearby towns like Coats and Isabel, know Patsy Janzen Aubley. Aubley is one of those community-minded people who likes helping support others. If there is a pancake supper to plan or support, Aubley is there. If there is a family in need, Aubley gets the ball rolling, if there is a history project or gardening, or garage sale or park project to grab a hold of, Aubley is likely involved.
TOPEKA — Gov. Laura Kelly signed bipartisan legislation Thursday creating incentives in the form of state income tax credits for investors in construction of residential housing that contributes to economic development in Kansas.
A letter to my daughter celebrating the third anniversary of her college graduation this month! Did you ever wonder what your kid was doing?? Wonder why they were making the choices they were making?? Well here is a little of our story I wrote to my daughter in 2019!
The seven steps to Good Trouble in this series were drawn from Laura Haviland’s life. They were also inspired by my research into her autobiography, as well as life examples from Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, Levi Coffin, and of course from the principles and concepts found in the Bible and specifically the life of Christ. I have shared several stories with you from my book, Underground Angel-the life story of Laura Haviland in the pages of the Pratt Tribune.
For many people of faith, there is a great love of the Bible – and for good reason! The Bible is a treasure trove of stories about God interacting with humanity, it is a rich resource for learning how our ancestors in the faith made difficult decisions, it contains beloved prayers, it is the source of many of our favorite words of hope, and it makes freely available teachings that have benefitted the entire world. I give thanks to God for this good book! Do you as well?
