May meeting features animal roll call

The monthly meeting of the Jolly Workers 4-H club was held on May 1st at the St. John Annex at 1 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Braxton Alpers. The Roll Call was “What is your Favorite Zoo Animal” by Weston Peterson. Pledges by Ryer Ward.

Dunn receives first Alpers scholarship

On May 14, Preston Dunn, a member of the Jolly Workers 4-H Club, was awarded the first ever, “Clarence and Vera Alpers Stafford County 4-H Scholarship”. The scholarship is available to current high school seniors at Stafford County high schools (or home-schooling) who are active Stafford County 4-H members demonstrating leadership and program involvement.

Seniors enjoy meals together and special events

We are looking forward to the month of June at Sunflower Senior Center. The monthly carry-in supper will be June 6. This is our annual Hamburger/ Hot Dog Cook Out. The meat and the trimmings are furnished by the funds donated by the Toe Nail Clinic participants. Those attending are asked to bring “picnic” side dishes and deserts to enhance the meat.

In this new adventure of this life, we call our ministry now. My husband Jeff and I travel a ton. Now I thought we traveled a lot in the last 42yrs of knowing each other. I have to say in this season of life there has been even more these last two years.

Sometimes it is best just to not go there

Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” We rested at the summit of Chola Pass (17,782 feet above sea level), for an hour or so. It was early afternoon when we began the descent on the northeast side to the valley below.

Be grounded when the wind blows

Years ago a farmers owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farmers along the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that raged across the ocean, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals.
