Clark enjoys Miss Kansas year to the fullest

St. John native Taylor Clark has come to the end of her reign as Miss Kansas 2021, but it is not as bittersweet as one might think. Looking back, she has seen her own growth as a person in maturity, and looking forward she still has drumming to spur her on. This weekend Clark will be part of the Miss Kansas 2022 Competition, but this time she will not be judged, she will be performing, encouraging and celebrating accomplishments made as a successful title holder.

Both the boys and girls competed strongly in their respective events. Including PHS, there were a total of 35 schools competing, with several kids on each. Having said that, the Pratt kids still finished solidly against the stiff competition.

Addressing physiological leaf curl in tomatoes

Gardener Extension Every year we have calls from gardeners who have tomato plants with leaves that curl up. When tomato plants grow vigorously in mild, spring weather the top growth often exceeds the root development. When the first few days of warm, dry summer weather hit, the plant ‘realizes’ that it has a problem and needs to increase its root development. The plant tries to reduce its leaf area by rolling leaves. The leaves curl along the length of the leaf (leaflet) in an upward fashion. It is often accompanied by a thickening of the leaf giving it a leathery texture. Interestingly, leaf roll is worse on some varieties than others.
