Arming teachers in a way that makes sense

I support the idea of allowing qualified and highly trained volunteer teachers the option of having safe, secure, and immediate access to a firearm in the classroom and at school. Sharon Hartin Iorio, dean emerita at the Wichita State University College of Education recently wrote an opinion column run by many newspapers in the state of Kansas noting my position and arguing it won’t improve school safety. Her argument is incorrect.

Outdoor enthusiasts, pet owners encouraged to avoid harmful algal blooms

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Blue-green algae look much like other, more common algae but they’re really a type of bacteria called “cyanobacteria.” And this cyanobacteria, when in high concentrations, can cause illness in both people and pets. That’s why each year, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP), Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) work jointly to alert the public about potentially harmful algae blooms.

What words do you want to hear?

In such troubling times as these, what would be the words that you want to hear? Gasoline prices have dropped to under $2 a gallon, Covid has been eradicated, groceries prices are dropping as fast as they rose, Russia withdraws from Ukraine, a Peace Treaty has been signed by all the nations, a cure for cancer has been found, etc. All of these would sure sound good, and with it comes the visions of hope that could be restored to all of us.

Yes, you are loved, just like Teddy

Before our first child Lee, was born, I was shopping in the baby section, at what I thought, at the time was a fancy store, where I found a soft, adorable brown teddy bear with a red bow around his neck and as a bonus when you wound it up, it played music and its head turned. Because it was on sale I was able to buy it.

Resolve to write God-experiences down

Jeremiah 30: 2 “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.” Over the years I’ve found myself hurrying throughout most days and finally realized I was missing some very important parts of my life by trying to accomplish too many things. I once heard said, “A journey is not only about the destination, but also about the trip.” For many years, I’ve believed life is about the experiences we have.
