Murrow Award — one of the most prestigious prizes in broadcast journalism — for his coverage of western Kansas, its ongoing problems with water, its history of racism and how meatpacking transformed the region.

United WE, a nonpartisan nonprofit with a mission to advance all women’s economic and civic leadership, launched a Kansas Women’s Economic Development Task Force this summer to study issues related to women’s participation and advancement in the workforce.

We often overlook important truths when reading the opening and closing statements of Paul’s letters thinking, perhaps, they contain only formalities without much in the way of edifying content. But we would be mistaken to think this. The opening line of his letter to the Romans is a case in point: “Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God...” (Rom. 1:1). Here Paul asserts three things about himself: that he is a servant of Christ Jesus, that he is called to be an apostle, and that he had been set apart for the gospel of God.

Who may live on your holy hill?” (TNIV) This question addresses a fundamental concern for all of humanity. Is there any hope of life that isn’t corrupted by sin and that doesn’t end in death? Before mankind’s fall from innocence this question would’ve been meaningless.

Something special is happening on stage during play practices at the Pratt High School/Liberty Middle School stage. Students who have worked and played together for 12 or more years are making the most of the moments they have left as a unit on the theatrical stage, and the chemistry that is evolving for the musical production of ‘Little Women’ set for Sept. 10 and 11, is palpable.

A little rain, a little sun, a good dose of history, and a bigger dose of fun was experienced by those who made their way to Haviland on Saturday, August 27 for the 57th Annual Southwest Kansas Antique Engine and Thresher Show.
